People are loving the slopes

People are loving the slopes

“In the 2022–2023 winter season, approximately 29.9 million individuals in the United States engaged in snow sports activities, representing nearly 10% of the U.S. population aged six and older."

—Outdoor Sportswire

Injury counts are on the rise

The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) reports an average injury rate of approximately 2.5 injuries per 1,000 skier visits. For instance, a resort with 1 million skier visits per season might experience around 2,500 injuries requiring ski patrol intervention.

Getting injured on the snow is rather painful

Approximately 20.8% of skiing injuries involve the knee, including ligament tears such as the ACL and MCL.

Approximately 15.9% of injuries (snowboarders) are to the shoulder, including dislocations and fractures.

Ski Patrols are on the way, but…

Riding a toboggan/sled feels like:

A freezing and painful rollercoaster ride

"As I rode in the sled, my weight slid me to the bottom to where every bump compressed the fracture making it quite painful. "

Toboggan Pain Points

Physical Exhaustion

Toboggans can be heavy, especially with an injured person, making them hard to maneuver on long rescues or rough terrain.

Terrain Challenges

Rocks, moguls, and other obstacles hidden beneath the snow can make toboggan travel treacherous, leading to jerky movements or potentially causing the toboggan to tip over.

Patient Discomfort

Inadequate securing can lead to patient movement during transport, potentially worsening injuries. Proper use of straps and immobilization devices is essential to maintain stability.

Besides rescue, ski patrols also need to take care of other tasks

These tasks often require different sets of tools across the resort,

Utility Snowmobiles are widely used by ski patrols to commute and conduct various field works

Electric Snowmobiles are hitting the market

“$28.3 million in 2023 and is projected to reach around $47.4 million by 2027”

Why Electric:

Instant Torque
Quiet
Low Maintenance
Ease of Control
High Horse Power

Design Angle

An electric utility snowmobile that enhances the rescue experience for both ski patrols and injured skiers/snowboarders.
