The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) reports an average injury rate of approximately 2.5 injuries per 1,000 skier visits. For instance, a resort with 1 million skier visits per season might experience around 2,500 injuries requiring ski patrol intervention.
Approximately 20.8% of skiing injuries involve the knee, including ligament tears such as the ACL and MCL.
Approximately 15.9% of injuries (snowboarders) are to the shoulder, including dislocations and fractures.

Ski Patrols

But…
A report from the National Ski Patrol (NSP) indicates that staffing shortages and the physical demands of manually transporting injured skiers on rescue sleds can slow down operations, particularly in challenging terrain (NSP, 2022).
Traditional rescue toboggans are difficult for everyone because:

"As I rode in the sled, my weight slid me to the bottom to where every bump compressed the fracture making it quite painful. "

Extended toboggan rescues can be physically exhausting for both the patroller and the patient. Especially after various other tasks that ski patrol needs to complete.

In challenging conditions, one patroller alone may not be enough to manage a toboggan safely. Icy slopes, deep snow, or tight tree runs often require additional patrollers to assist in braking or stabilizing the sled.

Projections indicate that the global electric snowmobile market will expand from approximately USD 105.5 million in 2025 to USD 209.5 million by 2032, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.3% during this period.
Taiga Motors' Nomad model features a 90 kW (approximately 120 horsepower) electric motor, enabling it to tow up to 1,125 pounds (511 kilograms), demonstrating substantial torque capabilities suitable for both utility and recreational purposes
“These 100% electric snowmobiles will reduce noise pollution for wildlife, improve local air quality, and lower our carbon emissions – all while making sure our on-mountain teams have the reliable transportation they need for emergency repairs, urgent rescues, and the day-to-day work that helps create an amazing guest experience”
